We have been at the forefront of creating new initiatives for practitioners and scholars in theatre and film, including:
The Sixty Second Film and Video Festival
Artists, Curators and the Screen (ACTS I): a one-day symposium, funded by the Arts Council
Studies in Musical Theatre: the first academic journal dedicated to musical theatre, published by Intellect Press and edited by Dominic Symonds and George Burrows
Song, Stage and Screen: an international academic conference on musical theatre, hosted by the University of Portsmouth in 2006, the University of Leeds in 2007, the City University of New York in 2008 and scheduled to be held at the University of Maryland from December 3-5 2009
Make a Musical Summer Schools: running from 1991, these two-week intensive workshops for 14-21 year olds take participants through the whole process of staging a musical, from auditions to full-scale performance. Shows have included Grease, Cabaret, West Side Story, Return to the Forbidden Planet and many more.
